How I Got 2 FREE Hams for Easter Dinner

How many of you try to do the majority of your grocery shopping at one store? I know that we do! Not only do we do 90% of our grocery shopping at Weis Markets but we get 90% of our prescriptions filled at their pharmacy too! Why do we try to keep it all located at one store? Well, I’m going to tell you.

1. Their prices. Compared to the majority of grocery stores in our area their prices and selection are better. Sure, there are a few items that can be found cheaper somewhere else, but overall it’s where we prefer to shop.

2. Pharmacy Services. My wife and I are both on several prescribed medications on a daily basis. Having an on-site pharmacy within the store saves us time.

Okay, now for the BEST reason of all.

FREE Easter Groceries

Every time we shop at Weis Markets we earn points when using our WEIS club card (free). That includes earning points on prescriptions that we get filled there. Those points add up and can be spent on various advertised specials within the store or you can use the points to save money when filling up your gas tank. Keep track of your points every time that you go!

My wife keeps the most recent receipt on the front of the refrigerator and uses a highlighter marker to “mark” our current points. Then when the sales specials and flyer comes out…we look it over to see what we can get for free by using our points.

FREE Easter Groceries

A few days before the Easter holiday we went into Weis Markets to redeem 950+ points that we had saved over the course of 3 months. Here’s what we got for FREE that day!

2 Smithfield Hams (each one was almost $30.00 each)
2 liter bottle Weis quality Cola Soft Drink
1 bag Weis Quality frozen brussel sprouts
1 pkg. fresh jumbo blueberries

Those 5 items totaled up to just under $70.00 of free high-quality food that we got FREE by redeeming our points!

We made one of those Smithfield hams for the family’s Easter dinner (main course), served the Brussel Sprouts as one of the side dishes, consumed the soft drink and my wife tossed the fresh blueberries into a sponge cake she had made for dessert. This year…our Easter dinner for a family of 6 cost us less than $10.00 which was a fabulous deal.

My wife is going to bake up the second ham for Mother’s days. She’s then going to use half of that ham for canning her homemade Ham & Green Beans Soup. If you’re into home canning, check back in a few weeks for her delicious recipe and home canning how-tos!
