Classic Slow Cooker Baked Beans Recipe

Classic Slow Cooker Baked Beans RecipeMy sister Deanna was known for her baked beans that were made in a slow cooker crockpot. At every family get-together she brought them and they were quickly devoured by the family. These are your classic baked beans…not ruined by a ton of fancy ingredients. The kind you find at backyard barbecues and family picnics.

When I make her recipe I used pork bacon. When my sister makes the recipe she uses turkey bacon. The choice is yours! I toss all of the ingredients into my slow cooker but you could certainly place them all into a baking dish and bake in your oven.

Classic Slow Cooker Baked Beans Recipe

4 (28 oz.) cans Baked Beans
1 1/2 lb. bacon
2 medium onions
1 1/2 to 2 lbs. brown sugar (to taste)
1/2 to 3/4 cup ketchup (to taste)
2 Tbsp. sweet relish

Cut bacon into small pieces. (I use kitchen shears to do this). Place in skillet on stove and fry. Dice up onions and add to bacon while it is frying. When bacon pieces are crispy, turn the temperature down to low and add the brown sugar, ketchup and sweet relish. Continue to heat until brown sugar dissolves. (mixture should taste sweet). Remove from heat.

Pour all of the ingredients including the baked beans into your slow cooker. Place the lid on top. Cook on the low heat setting for 3-4 hours or the high heat setting for 2 hours.

A good recipe just in time for summer picnic season. Slow cooking is the best for baked beans.
