Bird’s Nests in Hanging Flower Baskets

Two weeks ago I had my husband hang up 4 artificial flower hanging baskets on our front porch. I bought those beautiful hanging baskets last year and love them! You don’t know they’re faux until you’re touching them! They’re high-qaulity faux floral hanging baskets that look beautiful hanging up from early spring to mid-fall. I love that I don’t need to water them, prune or anything else!

Anyway, the baskets were hanging up for just a few days when I noticed a Robin going in and out of one…she was building a nest. In a matter of 5 days she built the nest that you see in my photograph. There’s no eggs inside it yet. When she does lay them…I have a camera hooked up to document the process and will share those photos at another time.

About day 3 of noticing that nest….I found another nest in in the hanging basket on the otherside of the front porch. It’s a lot smaller than the Robin’s nest. After keeping an eye on it…I spotted a house finch flying in and out of it. Took the house finich about the same amount of time to build her nest.

So…here I am…waiting and anticipating the egg laying by both of these moms-to-be. Every year I look forward to watching eggs hatch, mom & dad feed the babies and within 14-21 days the babies fledge the nest. Then I always give the baskets a good cleaning before hanging them back up. I guess you could say…it has become an annual tradition.
