Last month the wife and I went down to Lancaster County in Pennsylvania for a weekend getaway. One of the things that we enjoyed doing was the driving tour to see all of the covered bridges located in Lancaster County. These are OLD wooden bridges with many of them still in operation today.
One of the covered bridges that we saw is called the Leaman’s Place Covered Bridge that spans across the Pequea Creek. This oldie but goodie was built back in 1845. Hard to believe that it’s that old! It’s been updated several times throughout the years.
If you’re unfamiliar with the area….it sits less than 10 miles off of Route 30. A really nice countryside drive to get to it. It’s surrounded by farmland, some of them owned by the Amish. Matter of fact, we passed 3 Amish Horse and Buggys on our drive to get there. Really cool to see them.
You can park your car and get out to photograph the bridge by pulling off the side of the road. On one side of the bridge (before entering it), you’ll find the official historical information plaque containing all of the bridge’s historical info along with facts about the area. Just be careful, there’s not a lot of heavy traffic on the road but there’s some. Just be aware of that.
In the coming weeks I’ll share some more photographs of some of the activities that we enjoyed while visiting Lancaster County in Pennsylvania.
