Full Solar Eclipse Painted Rocks and Seashell Designs

March 30, 2024 by Shelly

Full Solar Eclipse Painted Rocks and Seashell DesignsWe’re going on a road trip in early April to see the Full Solar Eclipse on April 8th, 2024. We will be traveling from south central Pennsylvania up to Lake Erie in the state of New York. We’ll be directly in the path, so we should see the FULL SOLAR ECLIPSE! Several of our family members are going along with us and everyone is excited!

I’m painting 25 kindness rocks and seashells to hide along the way. They will be great souvenirs for those who find them. You don’t have to be a talented artist to make them. Even if you’re not going on a road trip, they’re great for kids to make as a learning tool. Teach them about the Solar System and Solar Eclipses. If you haven’t picked up your Solar Eclipse viewing glasses yet…make sure you do so! You can’t safely look up into the sky without them!

You’ll need some small to medium sized rocks and seashells to make them. I used a combination of 3″ wide clam shells, scallop seashells, razor clam shells and rocks. You can paint the entire thing or just one side…that’s entirely up to you. I used a combination of acrylic craft paint with a paint brush and BETEM Acrylic Paint Pens with dual tips. The paint pens are great for doing all of the design work and wordage.

Design ideas are endless! I hope my photos have sparked some design ideas for you! Once they’re done you do need to seal the design by spraying them with 2 coats of a Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer or use a foam brush and brush-on 2 coats of Clear Mod Podge. I used Glossy Mod Podge on the designs featured in my photographs. I love the shine and I feel it better protects the paint.
