For the panda bear you’ll need one 4″ wide clam shell and two 1 1/2″ wide clam shells. For the bunny rabbit you’ll need one 4″ wide clam shell and 2 smaller mussel shells. Wash all seashells in warm soapy water using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. Rinse with clean water and air dry.
Paint the large clam shells with white acrylic craft paint. We used 2-3 coats of paint to get the desired coverage. Let dry for an hour.
While they’re drying paint the 2 smaller clam shells with black acrylic craft paint and the 2 small mussel shells with white acrylic craft paint. Let dry for hour.
Once the shells are dry use Gorilla Glue to attach them to the top of the head as shown in the photograph. Let the glue set for 1-2 hours to take hold.
The facial designs were made using Acrylic Paint Pen Markers. These are NOT regular markers but acrylic paint that is dispensed in a marker. You’ll add the eyes, nose, mouth, whiskers and the pink on the bunny’s ears. Paint Pens dry quickly, so in about 30 minutes or so, it should be dry.
Take the painted seashells outside. Spray them with 2 coats of a Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer allowing for 30 minutes of drying time between coats. Flip them over and spray the other side. Let dry for several hours or overnight. This protects the painted finish.
