Jigsaw puzzles can be beautiful works of art throughout your home when they’re preserved. When turning a jigsaw puzzle into a piece of wall art you want to look for over-sized or poster-sized puzzles. Look for colorful designs with clear images. The design should work for the color scheme and decor within that room. They don’t have to be expensive!

When building the puzzle you want to build it on a large surface. A roll up puzzle mat is a great way to go. You can transport the puzzle as you build it from room to room. It won’t clog up valuable space on your dining room table or desktop. These mats allow you to take your time building it and are reusable.
Once the jigsaw puzzle has been built you have to preserve it. You can do that with self-adhesive stick-on puzzle saver sheets or with roll-on puzzle glue. If I’m working on a large to x-tra large sized puzzle I prefer to work with the self-adhesive stick-on puzzle saver sheets. If I’m working on a small to medium sized puzzle I prefer to work with the roll-on puzzle glue. You’ll need to experiment to find the one that works best for you.
You can leave the preserved puzzle unframed or frame it. Personally, I think framing them really turns them into official pieces of wall art. Framing can be expensive, so here’s a few tips on obtaining frames.
1. Don’t be afraid to ask family and friends if they have any old frame artwork sitting around in their basement, garage, or attic that they don’t want anymore. If so, get the size and see if it will work for your puzzle.
2. Shop flea markets, yard sales and second-hand stores. They can be great resources for finding inexpensive photo and canvas frames.
3. If you need to buy from a retail store utilize coupons and discounts if you can. Craft stores often have 20% to 50% off coupons available to their customers. Check out the clearance section to see if there’s anything that you like to really maximize your savings.
Above you’ll see a photograph of a large wall-sized jigsaw puzzle that I recently preserved for our game room. My wife and I decorate in a coastal beach style and adore lighthouses. It shows all of the various lighthouses in the U. S. A. After I preserved it….I framed it in a black frame (glass front removed). I think it turned out beautifully.
