Last week I asked my family doctor what should I do with used Covid-19 at-Home test kits? Over the past 3 years I’ve been given different answers by different people, so I wanted to hear it from a professional. Here’s what she told me…although your physician may give you different advice.
In most locations around the country they can be disposed of in normal household trash. You will want to consult the authorities in your area to find out their policy. Medical facilities are different and have to follow different guidelines. They dispose of them in biohazard bags or containers.
As a safeguard…she recommends to her patients that we carefully put the “used” test kit into a zipper closure plastic bag and zip it shut before tossing it into the household trash. It doesn’t matter if you tested positive or negative, that is what she recommends.
If you tested positive she recommends that you wipe down the surface that the test kit sat on with a disinfecting disposable wipe and to thoroughly wash your hands after disposing the Covid-19 At-Home Test Kit in the trash. Other than that, we don’t have to worry about biohazard materials and waste.
Looking to buy BinaxNOW COVID-19 Antigen Self Test kits for home use? We purchase ours from Amazon and have them shipped to our front door. You should have at least 1 test kit on-hand for every member who lives in your household. If you’re a family of 4…then 4 kits, if you’re just a couple then you should have 2 kits, if not more. We keep 4 kits in our household (just the 2 of us) at all times. You don’t want to come down with symptoms and then have to run around trying to purchase test kits when you feel like crap! Make sure you keep several on hand.
