These adorable Decoupage Valentine’s Day Heart Seashell Decorations were made using large 5″ wide clam shells that we collected from the beach. We used red heart paper doilies that we decoupaged onto the shell using Mod Podge. Once completed they can be used inside or outside of your home. We like to see them displayed on a desk as a paper weight, sitting on a shelf or placed on your front porch as an outside decoration.

Wash all seashells in Dawn Liquid Dish Soap and rinse with clean water. Why Dawn? It does the best job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Air dry. They need to be completely dry before painting and crafting with them.
Decoupage Valentine’s Day Heart Seashell Decorations
5″ Wide LARGE Clam Shells
White Acrylic Craft Paint
Metallic Red Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Red Heart Shaped Paper Doilies
Foam Brush
Mod Podge Clear Sealer with Glossy Finish
The red heart paper doilies that we used fit perfect onto the seashell, no trimming was needed.
Base coat the clam shell with 2 coats of white acrylic craft paint allowing for 30-40 minutes of drying time between coats. Once the paint is dry…time to decoupage!
Use a foam brush to base coat the clam shell with a generous amount of Mod Podge Clear Sealer. Place the paper heart down onto the top of the clam shell. Smooth it down flat with your brush to remove wrinkles and air bubbles. Brush another layer of Mod Podge over the top of the paper heart and to cover the entire clam shell with the Mod Podge. Let dry.
To add additional color we took a paint brush and red metallic acrylic paint and brushed it around the edge of the clam shell to give it a more finished look. Let dry. Then cover the painted area with additional Mod Podge. Let dry. That’s it, you’re done!
