Muddy Buddies Cereal Snack Mix Recipe – Perfect for Family Movie Nights

We try to enjoy a movie night with the kids every week. During our family movie nights we like to make and serve finger foods. While popcorn is nice, it gets boring. Last weekend I whipped up the Muddy Buddies Chex Cereal Snack Mix which is easy to make. There’s no baking at all. As soon as you have it prepared it’s ready to eat. A very nice alternative to making popcorn!

The recipe calls for 3 different Chex Cereals. I ignore that. I use whatever flavor I want. Sometimes one flavor, two or all three. Just make sure you have the 9 cups that it calls for. Next, for smaller families, feel free to cut the recipe down into half so that it doesn’t make so much.

Before I get to the recipe I want to introduce you to Selefina, the spice shop through Adagio Teas. Selefina sells your classic spices like parsley and oregano…along with chili powder, crystallized ginger root, Cacao nibs, and everything in between. You can purchase samples sizes, regular sizes, refills, and empty spice jars if you need those! High quality, fresh spices and seasonings shipped straight to your door.

For this recipe I used the Selefina Cocoa Powder which really adds a nice depth of chocolate flavor in addition to the semi-sweet chocolate chips that the recipe calls for. One of the reasons I love and USE the Selefina Cocoa Powder is because it’s a “fine” powder. You won’t find lumps and chunks. Plus, the chocolate flavor is perfect, not bitter like you may think.

Chex Mix Muddy Buddies Snack Mix Recipe

3 cups of Rice Chex Cereal
3 cups of Corn Chex Cereal
3 cups of Chocolate Chex cereal
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup Selefina Cacao Powder
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups powdered 10X sugar

In a large mixing bowl combine together all of the Chex cereals until combined; set aside.

In a large microwaveable bowl melt together the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter until smooth. Do this on the high setting at 30 second intervals until smooth and creamy. Remove from microwave and stir in the vanilla extract until combined.

Pour the chocolate mixture into the mixing bowl that contains the cereal. Use a large spoon and stir until everything is combined and the chocolate mixture is coating all of the goodies in the mixing bowl. Pour the confectioner’s sugar into the bowl and stir again until all ingredients are well combined and everything is coated in the confectioner’s sugar.

Cover bowl. You can store in the refrigerator or at room temperature like we do.
