Upcycled Reading Glasses Painted Snowman Christmas Tree Ornament

Looking for a way to upcycle all of those old pairs of reading glasses, eye glasses, and sunglasses? If so, this adorable painted snowman Christmas tree ornament is super easy to make! You only need a few craft supplies to make it. This one was completed using scraps of materials that I already had on hand.

These would be super cute made with solid color, floral printed, neon, etc. colored frames. They will all work! You can get fancy with your painting or keep it simple like I did. I like the classic, simple look.

Old Reading Glasses
White Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Paper Towels, Water Dish
Black, Orange, White Acrylic Paint Pens with Medium Tips
Scrap Black Craft Foam
Scrap Green and Red Satin Ribbon
All-Purpose Craft Glue
Scissors
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer

When painting the lens you want to paint the inside of each lens with 2-3 coats of white acrylic craft paint. This will give the outside of the lens a nice smooth and shiny finish, so ONLY paint the inside of each lense. Let dry for 1-2 hours or until the paint is no longer tacky. Take them outside and lightly spray the painted surface with a coat of clear acrylic spray sealer. Let dry for 1 hour. That will protect the painted finish from chipping and cracking.

Use a black acrylic paint pen to make 2 square shaped eyes, 5 round dots for the mouth and 5 smaller dots for his buttons that are located on the second lens. All of the detail painting is done on the outside (front side) of the lense. Use an orange paint pen for the carrot shaped nose. Then add white dots and black dots to finish up the eyes. Let paint dry for 1 hour.

This snowman has a green satin ribbon scarf tied around the nose area of the glasses. You can use any color of ribbon that you have on hand. Just knot it as shown.

To make the top hat use black craft foam. We cut it first into a square shape. It should be wider than the eyeglasses, then use scissors to trim the foam into a top hat shape. Glue red satin ribbon around it with the ends overlapping in the back. Use the glue to attach the top hat onto the top of the snowman’s head. Let dry for 4-5 hours.

Hanging on the tree is easy! Just clip it onto a branch! You can use them to decorate wreaths, swags, curtain rods, curtain tie-backs, etc. A nice craft project for kids and adults to make.
