How to Freeze Grapes and How to Use Them

October 13, 2023 by Classystaff

How to Freeze Grapes and How to Use ThemFour years ago we planted 5 grapevines in our backyard. They’re a mixture of concorde and seedless green grapes. The first three years we didn’t get anything…but low and behold this year (the 4th summer) we got a load of grapes!!! We’re going to plant 4-5 more next month to keep our little vineyard growing.

Anyway, if you’ve ever grown your own grapes you know you’ll get more grapes than what you can eat. The 2-3 weeks that we have them fresh from the vine we eat them as snacks, use some to make grape jam and the rest I toss into the freezer. Yes, you can freeze grapes!

How to Freeze Grapes

Place them into a colander under cool running water. Pick off the stems, leaves and debris. Rinse them extremely well. Shake-off all excess water.

Place a clean cotton kitchen towel on your counter. Place them in a single layer onto the towel to air dry. You can also use several layers of paper towels if you prefer that.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay the grapes onto the baking sheet in a single layer. Place the sheet into the freezer for 2-3 hours or until the grapes are frozen. Remove from the freezer and place them into zipper closure freezer bags or freezer containers. I personally like freezing them in 1 cup pre-measured portions and in small freezer bags. Label and freeze for up to 6 months.

Uses: You can use frozen grapes in all kinds of different dessert recipes, fruit juice, fruit smoothies, tossed into yogurt, cereal, ice cream, in homemade popsicle recipes, as ice cubes in cocktail drinks or just snack on them partially frozen. Delicious!

I love frozen grapes! This is the way I do and freeze them. Only I just put them in a quart or gallon ziplock and put them in the freezer. Nothing better for a snack then bowl of frozen grapes.

I will so try this thanks for sharing. Sometimes I buy too many grapes and I would love to freeze them.
