October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Make sure you do a self-breast exam monthly and get a regular mammogram as your doctor advises. Stay up-to-date on all tests and exams!!!!
To help spread the word about Breast Cancer Awareness…I decided to sit down and paint 25 kindness pay-it-forward seashells in various pink ribbon designs. I used a variety of different type’s of seashells and in various sizes. You don’t have to be a professional artist to make them! Throughout the month I’ll be leaving them at various places that I go for others to find.
Supplies Needed:
Seashells
Acrylic Paint Pen Markers
Modge Podge with Glossy Finish
Foam Brush
I collected my seashells from the beach. Washed them in warm, soapy water with Dawn Liquid Dish Soap and rinse with clean water. Air dry for 1-2 days. They need to be completely dry before painting on them.
Acrylic Paint Pen Markers are available at your local craft store or from Amazon. I picked up the 2 sets that I use from Amazon because they sell them for a better price. The ones I use have dual tips (a medium tip on one side and a fine tip on the other side). Medium tips are great for coloring in larger areas, painting on your designs, etc. The fine tip is best for writing words and for outlining.
You can make any design that you would like. I kept the designs simple and in the pink color scheme with the pink ribbon. No template or pattern is needed. You can freehand it on with the paint pen marker or use a pencil first. Either way. After you’re done with the design let the painted seashells sit for several hours or overnight.
Finishing up – You need to clear coat them to preserve the painted finish and the shell. Use a foam brush to apply 2 coats of clear Modge Podge in a glossy finish. Allow for 45 minutes of drying time between coats. That’s it…you’re done!
