Last weekend I sat down and painted these clam shells using a combination of metallic acrylic craft paint and paint pens. I did them in this particular color scheme as I’m using them as part of my Thanksgiving and Autumn tablescape. You can make a dozen of them in just one weekend and you don’t need to have artistic skills to make them.

I used 4″ wide clam shells seashells that I collected from the beach. Soaked and washed them in Dawn Liquid Dish Soap for 15 minutes. Rinse with clean water and air dry for 2 days. They need to be completely dry before you paint on them.
Next…base coat each clam shell with a light ivory or off-white color. I used 2 coats of paint with 20 minutes of drying time between each coat. Once the paint was dry I sketched out the design using a pencil. You make a simple half circle at the point area of the shell. Then make large tear-drop shaped petals going around it.
You can use acrylic craft paints or paint pens to color in the design. I used a dark brown for the center of each flower. Gold metallic for the petals, a bronze metallic for the line down the center of each petal and a mustard yellow for the dots on the center of the flower. Let all of the paint dry for 2-3 hours or until it’s no longer tacky.
Take all of the painted shells outside. Lightly spray both sides with 2 coats of a Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer. I opted to use one with a glossy finish as I like the high-shine. Let them dry for a few hours. You can use them to decorate inside or outside of your home.

These clam shells are very pretty. I would want to display them inside the house,
