Hand Painted Kitty Cat Seashells Clam Shell Design

September 15, 2023 by Shelly

Hand Painted Kitty Cat Seashells Clam Shell DesignWe love cats as millions of other people do! Each kitty that we’ve ever owned had it’s own unique personality. Some are snuggle bugs while others liked to be left alone. Either way, we loved them and always gave them a good home. If you adore cats…you’ll love this easy-to-make kitty cat design. You don’t have to be a professional artist to make them. You can whip up several in just a day.

You’ll need clam shells that are 3 1/2″ to 5″ wide. We collected them from the beach. Wash them in warm, soapy water using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. It’s great for removing sand, debris, and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water. Let the seashells dry for 1-2 days. They need to be completely dry before painting on them. We used a combination of acrylic craft paint and acrylic paint pens to make this design.

Base coat each clam shell with 2 coats of acrylic craft paint in your desired color. We selected gray. Allow for 30 minutes of drying time between the 2 coats. Using a black acrylic paint pen we drew on the eyes and triangular ears first. We then used a pink acrylic craft pen to make the heart-shaped nose and the pink inner ears. Use the black paint pen to add the whiskers and mouth. Let dry for 2-3 hours or until the paint is no longer tacky.

Next…you want to seal-in the paint by adding 2 coats of Modge Podge clear sealer. I like to apply it using a foam brush, allowing for 15-20 minutes of drying time between the 2 coats. Then let the shells sit overnight to completely dry. You can now display them inside or outside of the home.

These clam seashells are so cute. My grandchildren would love making them. I shall have to find some clam shells.

These are adorable I really like the colors you used. The ears and noses are way too cute.
