How to Make Starfish Napkin Rings for Your Coastal Table

How to Make Starfish Napkin Rings for Your Coastal TableI spent 3 months looking for the perfect 8-piece set of coastal & beach themed napkin rings. The majority that I found out in the retail marketplace were not my taste and the few that I did like were way over-priced. It’s frustrating to go shopping at times! I wanted simple and under-stated napkin rings. No glitz, sequins, glitter, wild colors or other things. Just simple elegance. I decided it was time to make my own.

Buying Guide: Amazon for Gorilla Glue and Starfish, Hobby Lobby for the Napkin Rings and Unbleached Cotton Natural Twine. If you can’t find the twine you can use unbleached rope or cotton yarn. If you like the cotton napkins shown in my photo…I picked up 8 of those from The Christmas Tree Store.

Cut the unbleached cotton natural twine into 24″ long pieces. It’s easier to work with when wrapping the ring. Tack down the beginning and ends of the twine onto the napkin ring using hot glue. Cover the entire ring. Set aside. Continue covering all of them until done.

Place the rings onto a cardboard paper towel tube. Why? This will keep them from rolling around and will keep them upright until the Gorilla Glue dries. I recommend using Gorilla Glue because you’ll get a strong bond and the starfish are porous. Attach each starfish onto the napkin ring with a generous amount of Gorilla Glue. Let dry for several hours.
