Faux Mosaic and Stained Glass Painted Seashell Designs

Faux Mosaic and Stained Glass Painted Seashell DesignsThese faux mosaic and stained glass painted seashell designs are super easy to make. You don’t have to be an artistic painter to make them!!! They can be made using acrylic paint pens or with acrylic craft paint. I personally like to use a combination of both! Love to paint on shells? You’ll find 100+ painted seashell designs on the TwoClassyChics blog!

You always want to wash the clam shells in warm soapy water. I like to use Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. It does a fabulous job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water. Take the shells outside and let them air dry in the sunshine for a day or two.

Next…use a pencil to lightly draw the design onto the shell. Then take a black acrylic paint pen and go over those sketched out designs. You can look at the photos to get an idea on the designs that I made. One is simply just square-shaped boxes…like little mosaic tiles. The other two I simply use the black paint pen to mark the design on the shells.

You can color in the vacant areas with regular acrylic craft paints and a paint brush or use the paint pens. I do recommend the paint pens for the tiny spaces or for drawing on designs like zig-zags, tiny polka dots, swirls, etc. You get better control and more defined lines by using the paint pens. Work in sections and let each section dry before proceeding to the next one.

Let the painted designs “cure” for 8-12 hours or overnight. Take the seashells outside. You need to spray them with 1-2 light coats of an acrylic spray sealer. I use a clear one with a glossy finish. This will preserve the shell and protect the painted design. Let dry until no longer tacky.
