Last month we took a road trip down to Wildwood in New Jersey. We go down to Cape May County several times a year. It’s a beautiful area and the prettiest that the Jersey Shore has to offer. We enjoy hanging out in Avalon, Stone Harbor, North Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and in Cape May. If you want to head to the Jersey Shore…I highly suggest the Stone Harbor, Wildwood and Cape May areas.
While driving around the Wildwood island we came across 2 utility boxes with nice artwork painted on them. Of course…all artwork is beach and ocean related…specific to the south Jersey Shore area. You’ll find the painted utility boxes (several of them) along Rio Grande Ave and Pacific Aves in Wildwood. They’re at a lot of the red light intersections…so if you have a red light…easy to photograph them.
The large outdoor Cape May County wall mural was one that we spotted on the back of a building located on the mainland (Rio Grande). The building is part of a strip mall. It was done by David Macomber, a well-known Cape May artist in the area. It depicts various things you see in Cape May County like the Ferris Wheel and Roller Coaster up on Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, a large fishing boat, whale, the Cape May Lighthouse, etc.
We believe the Cape May County wall mural is fairly new. It still has bright colors and pristine looking. The salt air and bright sunshine fades outdoor wall murals in just a few years. We love how colorful and bright this mural is. Glad we got to see it in it’s pristine condition before the weather elements hit it over the next few years.
This must be something that many smaller towns are doing. Our city Morgantown WV has been doing it for at least 2 yrs maybe a little more. All the utility boxes are cover with different designs. And slowly painting on brick walls are showing up. One that was done was of Harriet Tubman the artist did a beautiful job. There are all different kind of pictures. It really makes a difference in how the town looks
