Earbuds and AirPods need cleaned on a regular basis to keep them functioning well and from spreading germs. I’m a daily user, so I like to clean mine every 7-10 days. If you use your’s less frequently, you could get away with cleaning them once every 2 weeks. If you drop them or lay them down in a “germy” or “dirty” place you should clean them right away.

When it comes to regular cleaning you should use a dampened, clean cloth. I like to use a small microfiber cloth that I ONLY use for cleaning my Earbuds and AirPods. For a deeper cleaning…dip the microfiber cloth in water that has a few drops of a mild liquid dish soap in it. When I say drops…I mean just a drop or two. Wring out the cloth and then wipe them down. This will often remove stubborn earwax, dirt, and oils. Take a clean microfiber cloth to dry them.
If you don’t want to go with the homemade cleaning suggestion above you can purchase an Earbuds and AirPods Cleaning Kit from Amazon and other retail stores. They come with soft brushes and other tools that are specifically made for this task. Each cleaning kit is different, so always read through the included instructions before using it. This is a great option for those who need to clean them while on-the-go or traveling.
When you’re not using your Earbuds or AirPods it’s important that you store them in a clean Storage Case. Don’t just toss them in your briefcase, gym bag, backpack, handbag, car console or all over your desk. Part of keeping them germ-free is properly storing them when they’re not in use.
