How many of you have had a broken bone at some point in your life? When I was 15 I fell during cheerleading practice off the top of a pyramid and fractured my arm. I had to sport around a cast and my arm in a sling for almost 8 weeks. The pain for that first week was terrible and something I never want to experience again. Luckily for me, no additional fractures (knock on wood) since then.
My daughter is 14 years old and guess what? She fractured her finger in 2 places while playing softball last month. Yes, her first broken bone! I was amazed at how well she handled the pain and the medical attention that followed it. I knew as soon as I saw her finger that it was fractured. It was crooked, black and blue and swollen within 5 minutes after the injury occured.
I took her immediately into the orthopedic walk-in clinic and they confirmed the fractures via x-rays. It was hurting her but she wasn’t screaming in pain. They reset the bones right in the office. Then put it into a split and wrapped it. She had to wear the contraption for 4 weeks and was ONLY allowed to take it off when showering. We then wrapped it up in the split with a clean wrap.
As parents it’s important we get our kids medical attention right away. There’s a girl on her team who just did the same thing to one of her fingers. The difference is…her father didn’t think it was broken and she didn’t get medical attention until 3 1/2 days later. By then it was so swollen and blue that she couldn’t move it. Because it wasn’t immobilized the fracture deepened and got a lot worse from her moving it around.
The point of my post is this. It’s better to be safe than sorry. My daughter had a quick recovery but her friend didn’t. She ended up having to go into surgery and have it pinned. That required additional pain, recovery time and of cost money!!! Get your kids checked out by a medical professional and don’t assume that something isn’t broken!!!

I did not know that there was an orthopedic walk-in clinic i shall see if i can find one near us. I agree with you about better see to it right away than take a chance on worsening the injury.
My son got hit by a pitch while playing baseball that resulted in a broken arm. Long healing process during the summer and our planned vacation. But glad that we got it checked out immediately and it healed well.
orthopedic walk-in clinic ????? I have never heard of one of these. The last time I really really needed help for my knee had to call and make apointment. I was lucky only a 2 day wait.
So far no one in all the exteneded familys has had a broken anything.
But this is good information and should always be checked
