Last month we took a road trip through western Pennsylvania…focusing on small towns and country roads. We wanted to see small towns and the interesting things that they have to offer. While passing through Somerset County we visited the Trostletown Covered Bridge.
This old wooden bridge was built in 1873 and has been restored over the years. It’s closed to vehicular traffic, so it’s mainly used as a tourist destination. Fact – There are thousands of people who travel all across the world to just visit covered bridges! Yes, it’s true and we’re one of them!
You can walk inside the bridge and you’ll see an old Conestoga Wagon which was pretty cool. However…across the street you’ll find more cool things! There’s an American Legion Post that has an outside veteran’s memoril that features a Huey Helicopter and M10 tank. I enjoyed seeing those!
Over the coming weeks we’ll share more photographs and information from our 5-day road trip through western Pennsylvania. It was fun!
I am glad that covered bridges are a tourist destination. It is important to keep this part of our history alive.
I never get tired of looking at covered bridges and this one is so pretty. I would love to do a painting of one.
This is nice to see since I will never get up there. Thank you for sharing.
