My children love jumping and playing on the trampoline in our backyard. It’s a great way to get them outside into the fresh air and exercising. A trampoline can be used with older children and adults. With that said, every trampoline is different. You need to buy one that is geared towards the ages of the children who will be using it. Always follow the manufacturer’s age requirements.
Here are 9 tips for keeping kids safe on a trampoline.
1. Always place it on even ground…paricularly in a grassy area. Don’t place it on cement, wood, etc.
2. Keep it away from fences, fire pits, garden sheds, lawn mowers, trees, and other outdoor items. A child can easily fall off and into one of those items getting severely hurt.
Look at the photo in our post. That trampoline is too close to the fence, a fire pit and to the right of it a metal garden shed. A BIG no-no!!! Avoid all of that!!!
3. Read all of the manufacturer’s instructions for putting it together and installing it. Don’t take any shortcuts!
4. Make sure you install a safety net that goes around the entire perimeter of it.
5. Inspect it often! I recommend inspecting it before use every time! It only takes you a few minutes to walk around it and to make sure everything is still securely attached.
6. Don’t let children use it while wearing socks, shoes, hats, belts with metal belt buckles, and while wearing jewelry. Those items can cause injury to a child.
7. Follow weight limits recommended by the manufacturer and limit how many children can be on it at the same time.
8. Supervise younger children at all times. Don’t have older kids looking over younger ones. They need adult supervision.
9. Go over trampoline safety with your children OFTEN. Remind them of the safety rules and guidelines.
