7 Tips on How to Grow a Burro’s Tail Plant
A Burro’s Tail is a succulent plant that is easy-to-grow as an indoor houseplant. It needs very little care. The Burro’s Tail is sometimes called a Donkey’s Tail…but they are indeed the same plant. Here’s 7 tips for caring and growing the Burro’s Tail indoors as a houseplant.
The houseplant on the right in the photograph is a Burro’s Tail that I recently transplantted into a new pot. The one on the left is Aloe Vera. Both are from the Succulent family.
1. It needs good drainage so pick a pot with drainage holes at the bottom.
2. Use quality soil that is made specifically for succulents.
3. Don’t over-water it. I water mine lightly once the soil is dry…about every 8-10 days.
4. It needs sunshine and does well in a window that gets 6+ hours of light per day.
5. Transplant into a new pot with fresh soil every 2-3 years or as it outgrows it’s current one.
6. Can be planted into a regular planter or a hanging basket.
7. Protect it from extremely cold temperatures. We live in the northeast. I like to take my houseplants outside to sit on my front porch or back deck May through early September. I then bring them back inside before the weather gets cold. Depending on where you live…you may be able to let them outside year-round.
