Tumbling Tower Blocks Summer Home Decor Accents

I love decorating my home with little hand-crafted accents. It’s a great way to add a pop of color and decorate for the season. A few months ago I made my own 3-tiered tray using Dollar Tree items which I keep on my buffet table. I change out my tiered tray decor as the seasons and holidays change. You can check out that post if you want to make one! If you’re looking for some handcrafted tiered tray accents to add onto one for the summer season….check out what I made below.

Dollar Tree Shopping List: Acrylic Craft Paint, Paint Brushes, Tumbling Tower Wood Game Blocks, Roll of Jute, Bag of Seashells, and a bottle of Modge Podge.

The designs shown on the blocks and the tag were cut-out from a piece of scrapbooking paper picked up from my local craft store. The Unfinished wood tag with wood bead garland was purchased from Amazon. Dollar Tree has similar beaded tags.

Beach – That block was made using a regular size Jenga style game block.

Sea – That was made by gluing 2 mini Tumbling Tower Blocks together using Gorilla Glue.

Summer – Was made using just 1 mini Tumbling Tower Block.

Base coat all of your blocks with 2 coats of acrylic craft paint, allowing for 30 minutes of drying time between coats.

I cut out the wordage from a piece of scrapbook paper to fit onto each block using scissors. You can find all kinds of summer and beach themed scrapbooking papers at your local craft store.

Brush the front of each block with a coat of Modge Podge. Press your cut-out design on top. Use the foam brush to smooth it down into place. Add an additional coat of Modge Podge on top and then add a coat of Modge Podge all over the entire wood block. One coat should be enough. This glues the cut-out down and then the coating over the top protects everything. Let dry until clear and no longer tacky.

You can add little accents to each block. I added thin pieces of jute but you can use twine or ribbon. I accented two of the blocks with mini seashells to give them depth and additional pizzazz. Let everything dry.

The tag was unfinished and I disassembled it. I took all of the wood beads off and painted them in colors to work with my summer coastal beach theme. I used 2 coats of paint on each bead. Let dry. I then placed them back onto the tag’s garland. I cut the Sun Shiny Day out of a piece of scrapbook paper. Painted the front, sides and back of my tag in a sea green color and left it dry. I then used Modge Podge to adhere the cut-out onto the front of the tag. Then used Modge Podge all over the tag to seal everything in. Easy!!!
