How to Make Faux Carrots for Easter Decorating

I enjoy decorating for the Easter holiday but I don’t go overboard. I like to change out a few of our linens and add a few small decorator pieces throughout the home. As a crafter, I’m always looking for new little Easter craft projects to make.

This faux carrot is super easy to make! It’s made using upcycled and recycled materials. You can make a bunch of them in just one weekend. They look adorable displayed in bunches or beside any Bunny figures that you may have. Here’s how to make them.

Brown Paper Bag
Masking Tape
All-Purpose, Quick-Drying Craft Glue
Orange Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Foam Paint Brush
Orange Acrylic or Cotton Yarn
Faux Green Foliage (pulled off of old silk flowers)

To get started…scrunch up the brown paper bag until it resembles a carrot shape. Wrap masking tape around it to hold the shape into place. They should be slightly bent with narrowing at the tip. Don’t make them look too perfect!

Working in sections brush craft glue onto the carrot and then start wrapping orange yarn around it. I work in 1/4 sections while doing this part…starting at the top and working my way down. Place the yarn close together with no gaps and it’s okay to overlap a little bit. You want to completely cover the paper bag with the yarn. Let dry for 3-4 hours or until it’s firmly in place.

Squirt some orange craft paint onto a plastic lid. Add 2-3 drops of water to slightly thin it down. Brush that orange paint all over the yarn. This gives it a more realistic look of a carrot that was just dug up out of the ground. It tones down the look of the yarn as you can see in my photograph and adds realistic texture. Let the paint dry until it’s no longer tacky.

Finishing up: I had a bunch of old artificial flowers sitting around in my scrap craft box. I pulled the green foliage off of them and used as toppers on my carrots. Just tack it down with a generous amount of glue. Let dry. You’re done!
