Hand Painted Strawberry Seashell Refrigerator Magnets

These strawberry refrigerator magnets are super cute and made with a scallop seashell. You’ll need just a few basic craft supplies to make them. A great project for older kids and adults. Once completed you can place them on a metal file cabinet, school or work locker, refrigerator or freezer…any metal surface!

Prepare the seashell first. Wash and dry it. It needs to be thoroughly dry before painting on it. Use pliers or tile nippers to snip off the flat hinge on the base of the shell. You would it to be triangular in shape like what is shown in the photograph. Love crafting with seashells? You’ll find 150+ seashell craft projects right on our blog!

Hand Painted Strawberry Seashell Refrigerator Magnets

Scallop Seashell
Pliers or Tile Nippers
Red and Green Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Paper Towels, Water Dish
Heavy-Duty Magnet
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer – Glossy Finish
Black Paint Marker – Fine or Medium Tip
Gorilla Glue

Base coat the front of the seashell with 2 coats of red acrylic craft paint allowing for 30 minutes of drying time between coats. Once dry, use green acrylic craft paint to make the leaves at the top. They should be zig-zag in shape. Use a black paint pen to randomly add the strawberry’s seeds. Let everything dry until the paint is no longer tacky, about 75 minutes.

Take painted seashells outside and spray with 1-2 light coats of Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer in a glossy finish. Let dry for 2-3 hours or until no longer tacky.

Shells are semi-weighty, so you need to use a strong commerical or industrial strength magnet on the back. I recommend adhering that magnet with Gorilla Glue…hot glue doesn’t work well on seashells. Let dry until firmly in place.

This is yet another pretty seashell and it is not hard to make. I think I would use a uellower green for the leaves.
