How many of you enjoy bird watching? Birding is something my husband and I both enjoy. We have birdhouses, birdbaths, and nesting boxes on our property. We have binoculars that we take with us when we go camping and hiking…specifically so we can bird watch!
I love the North American birds such as Barn Owls, Screech Owls, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Hummingbirds, finch, etc. With that said, I’m a HUGE fan of coastal birds like sea gulls (various species), egrets, flamingoes, herons, etc. I could sit on the beach for hours just watching them. It never gets boring to me.
Two weeks ago I hung up 4 hanging baskets across our front porch. Within days I noticed activity in 2 of my hanging flower baskets. I watched from a distance as 2 birds kept going in and out…dragging dried grass, straw and other items into the basket via their mouths. I knew immediately they were building nests.
Over the weekend I got up on my step ladder and took a peek. One basket has just a nest (no eggs yet) but the other basket has a beautiful nest with 5 tiny little eggs sitting inside it. Every 2 days I’ll be going out to take a peek when the mom birds are out looking for dinner. I’m very careful when I spy on the nests making sure I don’t touch the basket at all. You never want to leave your scent behind.
If I catch baby hatchlings inside…I’ll grab a few photographs to show you. As of 2 days ago…this is what nest #1 looks like. Do you enjoy birdwatching?

I do a little bird watching , but I am open to doing more when I go on hikes. I love how the birds used your baskets to make their own nests.
I so love to bird watch too and I never get bored either. This nest is so beautiful they word so hard to make their nests. Thank you for sharing this great pics can’t wait until you guys have babies.
I don’t get to bird watch as much any more. But always enjoyed watching and then seeing mom take the babies to bird feeders. Have you ever watched the Eagle cams??
