Refinished Wood End Table – Coastal Cottage Style

How to Refinish a Wood End Table - Coastal Cottage Beach StyleA few months ago a friend of mine gave me an older solid wood end table, or side table as some people call them. She was moving and gave it to me to refinish. I loved how slender and tall it was….plus it was solid wood and sturdy! I knew that table was worth my time!

The first thing I did was give it a good sanding with my husbands palm sander. I removed the old paint and smoothed out all of the scratches. That process took me about an hour. I then dusted off all of the dust particles. You always want to make sure you do that so that your paint or stain will be applied to a smooth surface.

We decorate in a Coastal Cottage Beach Style. I decided to paint it white and coastal gray. I didn’t want any funky patterns…just simple and classic. I painted the top, all 4 legs, and underneath the top a solid white. I then painted the 4 panels that go around it gray. I did use 2 coats of paint. I left everything dry.

Striping and Sanding a Table

The room that I’m placing it in has hardwood floors…so I purchased a small sheet of wool felt. I cut little pads from it that fit onto the bottom of each leg. I used Gorilla Glue to attach the wool felt pads. This will help to keep the table from scratching up my wood flooring. I turned the table upside down and left it dry overnight.

That’s it…it was done! I think it turned out beautifully! From start to finish I invested one weekend, so I feel it was well-worth my time and effort. What do you think?
