Weathering a Tropical Storm

Shelly and SamGuess where we were when Hurricane Ian came roaring ashore late September and early October last year? We were at the Jersey Shore for a week and wow…the weather got rough! After Hurricane Ian struck Florida and South Carolina it took its good old time coming up to the northeast. For 6 days we got hit with outer bands, winds, rain, etc. Yes, 6 days…I thought the sunshine was never returning!

The south Jersey Shore didn’t get hurricane force winds but we did get Tropical Storm Force Winds for several days. Those winds blew sand up onto the streets, a few pieces of siding off buildings, we saw some roof shingles flying around and garbage cans rolling down the street. The sand stung your skin when you went outside.

Due to the high winds they pushed the high tides in further. They lashed and lashed the beaches for days. You could see chunks of sand going out to sea as the tides came in and out. The water was extremely choppy and at times it looked like foam was laying all over the beach along the waterline.

It was quite something to see and experience. We were able to get out and about to grab food, do a little shopping, etc. but we weren’t able to spend any time out on the beach. In between the heavy downpours and the lighter rain we would walk over to take a look, grab a few pics, and head back. With the wind howling like that and sand stinging your skin…you couldn’t stand over there for very long.

Anyway, I forgot to post these couple of photos back in late Fall, so I wanted to do it now. Hopefully, it’s something we won’t experience again…or at least for a very long time!
