The weekends are made for excursions. Each week, you have two blissful days to spend as you please, recreating or enjoying a favorite hobby.
Have you been itching to get out and explore? If you’ve grown tired of your local parks and walking trails, it’s time to mix things up a little!
Today, we’re sharing a few of the most exciting outdoor activities you can try this weekend, from the sweet and simple to the downright daring.
Go Camping
Nothing says “the great outdoors” like a night spent under the stars! If you’re up for a real adventure, pack a tent and your basic supplies and go backpacking. As you can see over at Chronic-Adventure.com, lots of local state parks and nature reserves have campsites dedicated specifically to this purpose! No matter where you live, there are scenic views and vistas waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.
If you’d prefer to indulge in your creature comforts rather than rough it, you can also look into more glamorous camping options. Appropriately called “glamping”, this allows you to enjoy the spoils of camping — s’mores by the fire, walks in the woods, and unforgettable views — without requiring you to sacrifice a hot shower or warm bed.
Forest Bathe on a Trail
Have you ever heard of forest bathing? Put simply, this is the act of totally immersing yourself in nature. It means taking the time to stop, be still, and soak in every single part of nature.
You can technically forest bathe anywhere outdoors! However, one of the best approaches is to find a clearing on a local hike and take a break in the middle of the woods. Simply stop walking for a minute, close your eyes, and listen.
Take a mental note of what you hear, smell, and feel as you relax in this off-grid paradise. Allow your senses to fully maximize, and try to quiet any intruding thoughts that dare to enter your mind. Stay in this moment for as long as you like, allowing feelings of gratitude and joy to pulsate throughout your being.
Try Stand-Up Paddleboarding
Back in 2022, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) had a major moment. While this outdoor activity has been around for years, it experienced a surge in popularity as people discovered how accessible and enjoyable SUP could be.
If you want a great core workout, rent a SUP board and visit a local lake. You may want to take classes before you begin to get the hang of it! Move your paddle from one side to the next to get up momentum.
For a more laid-back vibe, take it to a calm creek or pond, and simply sit or lie back on your board. It’s a great way to enjoy nature and get some exercise while you’re at it!
Attend a Sports Game
No matter the time of year, there’s almost always some type of outdoor sporting event to discover. From soccer and baseball to football and tennis, the possibilities are limitless.
Hope on Google search for sports that interest you. This is a quick and easy way to find games in your local area. You can also reach out to your local community organization or athletic club to learn more.
Take a folding chair, your big mug of coffee, and a cheerleader’s attitude. You may be surprised at how invested you become in these face-offs, even if they’re just Little League!
Try These Outdoor Activities and Enjoy Your Weekend
These are only a few of the many activities that await you right outside your front door. The best part about outdoor activities is that most of them are free or low-cost, and there’s always something new to discover.
Try one or all of these this weekend, and bring the family along. Who knows what memories await?
I would enjoy getting outside on a trail in the woods if it still wasn’t so cold. I am sure that I shall be able to do it ina mointh.
Getting outside on a trail in nature is one of my favorite activities. We do urban hikes near parks in the winter when the weather is not conducive for trail hikes.
