My husband is a great cook when it comes to grilling. With that said, he doesn’t like using bottled or prepared mixes. He likes to whip up his own homemade glazes, seasonings, and rubs. He can control the ingredients and make them as sweet or tangy as he wants to. In other words, tailor them to the family’s taste buds.
Before I get to the recipe I want to introduce you to Selefina, the spice shop through Adagio Teas. Selefina sells your classic spices like parsley and oregano…along with chili powder, crystallized ginger root, Cacao nibs, and everything in between. You can purchase samples sizes, regular sizes, refills, and empty spice jars if you need those! High quality, fresh spices and seasonings shipped straight to your door.
For this recipe I used the Selefina Mild Chili Powder Blend which is fantastic! What’s nice about this blend is that you can use as little or as much as you like. If you want it to be more “mild” then follow the recipe listed below. If you want the sauce to have more “heat” you can increase the amount of chili powder that is listed.
Sweet and Tangy Grilled Barbecue Chicken Recipe
3/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tbsp. light brown sugar
1/2 tsp. onion salt
1 tsp. ground paprika
1/2 tsp. Selefina Mild Chili Powder Blend
Your choice of chicken cuts.
In a large saucepan combine together all of the ingredients EXCEPT for the chicken. Stir over medium heat until it’s hot and the brown sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool down to room temperature.
Use a brush to cover the chicken (both sides) with the prepared mixture.
Preheat the grill until it’s hot. Place chicken onto the grill and grill on each side until the chicken is done. There should be no bloody juices come out of the chicken at all. Remove from the grill and let sit for 3-5 minutes before serving.
