Watermelons are a fun summertime motif to decorate with and look especially cute in a fruit themed kitchen. These hand painted watermelon seashells refrigerator magnets were made by my 13 1/2 year old granddaughter. Like me, she enjoys arts and crafts. I think she did a fabulous job! Here’s instructions on how you can make them too.
Painted Watermelon Seashells Refrigerator Magnets
Small Clam Seashells
Acrylic Craft Paint – Green, Lime, White, Pink/Red, Black
Paint Brush, Water Dish and Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish
Commercial Grade Magnets
Gorilla Glue
Small Round Glass Florist Stone
Paint the entire clam shell with the reddish pink acrylic craft paint. I used 2 coats of paint with 30 minutes of drying time between coats. Use the photo for reference to add the rind stripes and seeds. Let all of the paint dry for at least 90 minutes or until no longer tacky.
Take the painted seashells outside and lightly spray with a coat of clear acrylic sealer and let dry for 2 hours.
Flip the seashells over. Add a dab of Gorilla Glue inside. Place the glass floral stone on top. Shells are concave and this will give them a flatter back. Add another dab of Gorilla Glue on top of the glass floral stone. Place the round magnet on top. Let them dry for 2-4 hours. Once dry they’re done!
You can display your new magnets on the front of a refrigerator, freezer, metal file cabinet, or dress-up that work or gym locker. Cute little accents for spring and summer decorating.
