Looking for something fun, free, and educational to do with the kids this winter? Tired of being cooped up in the house? If so, You may want to visit your local Bass Pro Shops! We have one that is located about 15-20 minutes from our home. A few times a year we head into Bass Pro Shops to pick up a few things we need and we take the kids along with us. Why? Because there’s a lot of fun, educational, and free things for them to do!
At our local store they have huge aquariums set up with a variety of fish living inside them. The kids can learn about the fish and the ecosystem that they live in. My kids will stand in front of the aquariums for 30 minutes watching the fish swim around! They love it.
All throughout the store they have life-size, lifelike animals on display…deer, bears, rams, goats, etc. That the kids can check out. We take a little note pad with us and the kids write down the names of all of the animals that we see. Sort of like a treasure hunt. Once we get home we sit down together and look up each animal online to learn more about them. It’s a teaching aka educational moment.
During the holiday season of Easter and Christmas our local store offers children photos with Santa Claus and Easter Bunny. Throughout the year they host a variety of educational opportunities for adults and kids. Camping and fishing events to name just a few. Check your local store for more information on that.
As a family…we’re always looking for free or low-cost things to do with the kids. Bass Pro Shops is one of those things on our list and we typically go during the winter season when it’s too cold to do things outside. It’s nice to get the kids out of the house for a few hours!
Unfortunately there is no Bass Pro shop near me. The exhibits you have described aound amazing and a lot of fun to see.
It has been several years since I visited a Bass Pro Shop, but it was fun for kids and adults. I was amazed to see all that was there and so interesting.
