Easy Wood Snowman Winter Decorations

Easy Wood Snowman Winter DecorationsI decorate with a lot of snowmen and snow women during the holiday and winter seasons. Once Christmas is over I leave my snowmen out on display until the end of January if they’re winter related, non-Christmas in their design. Like the one that I’m featuring in my craft project today.

Easy Wood Snowman Winter Decorations

2 Unfinished Wood Balls (They have 2 flat ends with one ball slightly smaller than the other)
White Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Black, Orange and Red Sharpie Markers (fine tip)
Cheap Pair of Children’s Gloves
Scissors
Gorilla Glue
Scrap of Fleece
Plastic Snowflake (or other tiny decoration)

Paint the two wood balls with white acrylic craft paint. I had to use 2 coats of paint with 30 minutes of drying time between coats.

The hat is made from a cheap pair of children’s winter gloves that I picked up at Dollar Tree for $1.25. You will cut one of the fingers off of the gloves and use it for the knitted hat. I had a little plastic snowflake in my scrap bin and glued that onto the hat. Set aside.

Use Gorilla Glue (not hot glue) to adhere the 2 wood balls together. It will take 2-4 hours for the glue to set but it gives you a good, strong bond…unlike hot glue. While it’s drying cut a 1/2″ by 6″ strip from a scrap of fleece. Choose a color to coordinate with the hat. Use the Gorilla Glue to glue to around the neckline, overlapping at the one side. Use scissors to trim the scarf ends to an appropriate size. I used a mini clothespin to hold it in place for 30 minutes until the glue set. Glue the hat on top of the head. Again, it will take a little bit for that Gorilla Glue to set but it’s worth using on these type’s of projects.

To finish up…Use a black Sharpie Marker to make the two eyes, the orange Sharpie Marker to make the nose and the red Sharpie Marker to make the mouth and heart-shape on his belly. Let everything dry until set.

You can make several of them in one afternoon or weekend. If you’re going to gift them…you can sign the bottom with your name and date. If you want to turn them into Christmas Tree ornaments you can thread a string or ribbon through the top of the knitted hat to make a hanging loop.
