Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower Blocks Valentine’s Day Refrigerator Magnets

January 30, 2023 by Shelly

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you can make these adorable refrigerator magnets from Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower Blocks. If you’ve never heard of them…they’re wooden blocks (similar to Jenga) that are sold at Dollar Tree. I got 72 wooden blocks in the box for $1.25. You can make hundreds of different craft projects using them! The next time you’re at Dollar Tree, pick up 1-2 boxes as we’ll be featuring several more craft projects over the coming weeks that utilize the Tumbling Tower Blocks!

Valentine’s Day Print Scrapbooking Paper
Modge Podge – Glossy Finish
Acrylic Craft Paint (desired color)
Paint Brush and a Foam Brush
Gorilla Glue
Commerical-Grade Strong Magnets

Use the Gorilla Glue to adhere the 3 wooden blocks together. You only need a tiny dab of glue because Gorilla Glue is strong. I found that it works BETTER than hot glue. Let your blocks dry for 2-3 hours.

I selected a pink and red heart & love printed piece of scrapbook paper. I cut out squares to fit the size of my wood blocks. I opted to paint the 4 sides and the back of the blocks a medium pink color using acrylic craft paint. I think it added a nice finishing touch but you can skip that step and just let the wood show.

Use a foam brush to add a layer of Modge Podge onto the unpainted side of the block. Place your piece of scrapbooking paper on top. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles. Make sure it gets tacked down flat. Use the foam brush to add another layer of Modge Podge on top of the paper to seal the paper to the block. It adds a nice sheen (once dry) and protects the paper from rips and tears.

Optional: I decided to add Modge Podge around all edges and the back of the blocks to finish them off. I like the “sheen” that it provided giving the look of a finished product from all sides. You only need 1 light coat. Let dry until it’s no longer tacky, about an hour.

To finish them off you’ll want to use Gorilla Glue to adhere two strong magnets on the back side of each block. You need to use commerical-grade magnets! You don’t want them sliding up and down your refrigerator door every time it’s opened. I buy them by the pack from Amazon at a great price!
