Handmade Painted Cinnamon Applesauce Refrigerator Magnets

Handmade Painted Cinnamon Applesauce Refrigerator MagnetsHandmade refrigerator magnets are a great way to decorate the front of your refrigerator for the holiday season. They’re a “respin” on the traditional Applesauce Cinnamon Dough Christmas Ornaments that many of you are already familiar with.

A few days ago I posted instructions on how to make Applesauce Cinnamon Dough Christmas Ornaments and today I’m back with a “respin” on that particular craft project. You’ll want to READ the original post before starting on this one!

Once the ornaments have been made you’ll want to decorate them with acrylic craft paints. You’ll need the paint, a paint brush, water dish, and paper towels. Since these refrigerator magnets are semi-weighty I recommend using commerical grade magnets on the back. This way they’ll stay put on the metal surface without sliding around.

This project was made with a group of children ages 5 to 12 years of age. I premade all of the cinnamon dough ornaments the weekend before we sat down to work on the project. Basically, the kids are ONLY decorating them with paint and gluing the magnet on the back.

For extra protection I do recommend spraying each one with 1-2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer in a glossy or matte finish after the designs have been painted. This will prevent the paint from chipping and add a little bit more hardness to it. You want them to last for years!

Our photographs show the Christmas refrigerator magnets that my 12 year old granddaughter and 7 year old grandson decorated. I think they turned out beautifully! They’re just the right size to be tucked inside a holiday greeting card and given to a loved one during the holiday season. Yes, you would need to add additional postage to the envelop if sending them through the mail.

Your grandchildrren did do a great job. I wonder if my granddaiughter would like to try to make and decorate one of these magnets.

  2. This is a fun idea. I think my granddaughter could help make the dough, but I would want to premake it for any younger kids. They are so cutely decorated.

i would have to pre make them to. Great niece is 6 so she wants to do crafts now not wait for them to dry. Zay and her great grandma (93) have been painting decorations. One time they painted pine cones to go on the Christmas tree and last time painted christmas balls.

  4. They are so cute. I know the girls will love making these. Thank you for the idea.
