Lancaster County in Pennsylvania has thousands of Amish families residing within the county. Every year people flock to Lancaster County to partake in the area’s tourists attractions…many of which include Amish farm tours, horse and buggy rides, shopping small antique stores, farm market stands, quilt shops, and more.
There area has some of the prettiest farmlands in the nation! You’ll still see small Amish schools, horse and buggys, farmer’s plowing their fields using horses instead of tractors, and on sunny days you’ll see clothelines full of Amish style clothing. That’s right, they still hand wash and line dry their laundry!
We really enjoy visiting Lancaster County for a variety of reasons. First, it’s ONLY a 45 minute drive from our home. Second, there’s a ton of things to see and do! We enjoy visiting antique stores and farmer’s markets. We like supporting small businesses within our own state. Right in Lancaster (city) you’ll find 2 large outlet malls with name brand stores to shop at.
Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park is also located in Lancaster, along with 2 theaters where you can enjoy a show or a concert. There are carnivals, hot air balloon festival, and all sorts of other fun activities for families to enjoy. If you enjoy camping…Lancaster County offers that too!

Don’t think my brother has made it to Lancaster but there Amish near WV. He has been visiting, buying from the Amish for years. He had a horse sleigh from the 1930’s rebuilt and it is beautiful. He has also had his granddaughter a high chair and a rocking chair made. They do beautiful work. And the food he always brings back wonderful food.
I wish I could visit. I am sure I would love just walking around and looking.
