Always wash and dry your shells before painting on them. I like washing them in Dawn Liquid Dish Soap which removes the sand, grime, and fishy odors. Rinse clean and air dry.
Use tile nippers or pliers to snip off the hindged straight edge. You want the ladybug to have a triangular shaped face. Base coat the entire shell with 2 coats of red acrylic craft paint and let dry.
Paint the black head, the wing separator and polka dots with black acrylic craft paint. Let dry. Dip the end of the paint brush into white paint, dot on the two eyes. Let dry. Dip the end of a paint brush into black paint and dot on the two pupils. Let dry for at least 90 minutes or until the paint is no longer tacky.
Take painted shells outside and spray them with 1-2 light coats of a clear acrylic spray sealer. You want to spray both sides of the shell. This will protect the painted finish from chipping, cracking, and the color from fading.
Bring them back inside and flip them over to the back side. Cut a piece of clear fishing line that is 6″ long. Tie it into a loop. Glue the knotted end onto the back of the shell using craft glue. I don’t recommend hot glue because over time that glue softens up and things come apart. Use a craft glue or Gorilla Glue to adhere the hanging loop. Let dry. You’re done!

Another great ideal. Have a bag of shells (Dollar Tree) and always like ideals to do with great niece. She takes most of her painted shells and place them in her flower beds.
