Every year we like going down to Wildwood in New Jersey during the first weekend in October for the annual Oktoberfest. In addition to it being Oktoberfest, it’s also The Race of Gentlemen where they drag race antique cars, motorcycles, mini bikes, go-karts and trucks down the beach.
Oktoberfest activities are in abundance down at the South Jersey Shore. The majority of the restaurants and boardwalk stores are still open. Morey’s Piers who owns the amusement park keeps one of the amusement piers open during the weekend (Friday and Saturday nights).
A lot of the local shops and restaurants run Oktoberfest specials to help you save money. I like shopping on the boardwalk and picking up t-shirts and hoodies for my grandchildren for $5 and $10 each. They make a great Christmas presents and I can’t pass up a good deal.
Weather is typically beautiful. High temps in the 70’s or low 80’s during the day and in the 50’s or 60’s at night. Bring pants and a jacket for those cooler temps in the evening. The ocean is still warm and you’ll see visitors still swimming and surfing in it during the early part of October.
It’s a beautiful time to visit the Jersey Shore. Attractions are still open, there are no large crowds (other than attending an event), boardwalk isn’t crowded, plenty of space on the beach, no long lines at restaurants, and so forth. It’s one of our favorite times of the year to visit the Wildwood island.
Do you attend any Oktoberfest events in your local area? If you’re looking for something fun to do during the month of October every year we recommend you check out Wildwood during the first two weeks of the month (when most of the activities are going on). We always have so much fun!
We used to go to different places for Oktoberfest. We have not done it since the start of COVD . I think it is time to bring back those tradtitions.
We do go to Octoberfest in a town about an hour away that has a Bavarian theme. It is a lot of fun.
