Hand Painted Black Bat Seashell Halloween Decorations

Hand Painted Black Bat Seashell Halloween DecorationsHalloween is one of the toughest holidays for me to decorate in a Coastal style. You can find a few beachy Halloween items out in the retail marketplace but there aren’t many things to choose from. Luckily for me, I am a little crafty and came up with a few on my own.

This hand painted seashell will take you about one afternoon to make, allowing for drying time. You only need acrylic craft paint, paint brush, a large clam seashell, a cookie cutter, pencil and clear acrylic spray sealer to make it.

When working with seashells you always want to wash them in hot soapy water. I like using Dawn liquid dish soap. Remove all of the sand, debris and fishy odors. Let them air dry for 2-3 days before painting on them.

Use orange acrylic craft paint and give the shell 2-3 coats of paint, allowing for 30 minutes of drying time between each coat. For the bat I used a cookie cutter that I had in my kitchen drawer. Use a pencil to trace the outline of the bat onto the shell. Use black acrylic paint for the bat. I had to use 2 coats of paint to get the coverage that I needed. Let dry.

Dip the end of a paint brush into lime green acrylic craft paint and dot on two eyes. Use that same paint to dot on polka dots that go around the perimeter of the shell. Use that same technique to add black polka dots in between the green. Let dry for 2 hours or until paint is no longer tacky.

Take the seashell outside and lightly spray both sides with 2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer in a glossy finish. Allow 40 minutes of drying time between each coat. This will protect the painted surface. Now you can use your painted shells to decorate the inside or outside of your home for Halloween.

These are very cute sea shell decoration for Halloween. My grandchildren will love to make sea shells with black bat on them.

  2. This really stands out with the Halloween colors. Using cookie cutters is a good idea to get the shapes.

I have a bag of shells in the drawer (dollar tree) that great niece likes to paint on. So this is another great ideal that we will be doing
