Every year we like to gift board games to various family members during the holiday season. Our family has always enjoyed family game nights and look forward to receiving a new board game every year. Family game nights are the perfect way to disconnect from electronics and reconnect with one another.

Last week we sat down and played the new Raccoon Tycoon Strategy Board Game by Glenn Drover from Forbidden Games. It’s for ages 8 and up, takes 2-5 players, and the average play time is 60-90 minutes. It’s a strategy game, so it does take longer to play.
Synopsis: Become a Raccoon Tycoon in this fast, fun game of commodity speculation and town development. Corner the market on the most valuable commodities and create a small fortune. Use your new-found wealth to build powerful buildings in your town, or buy valuable railroads at auction. Own the best towens and railroads on your path to victory. There can be only one “top dog” in Astoria. Is it you?
Game Contents: 1 game board, 24 railroad cards, 16 town cards, 54 price & product cards, 27 building tiles, faux money, 150 community tokens, 1 starting player token, and the rule book.
We sat down to play it last weekend. We had 3 adults and 1 (13 year old child) playing the game. What’s really nice about this game is that it’s unique. It’s like nothing else that we’ve played. It gets you thinking and you have to think and plan out each move that you make. It’s definitely a strategy game.
You’ll want to sit down and read the rules before you start. This took us a few minutes because we really wanted to understand the game before we got started. Once we all understood we got playing. We enjoy strategy games and this one was fun to play…unlike others that tend to be boring. Also, every time you sit down to play it…it will be a different experience. It says for ages 8 and up…but I feel it’s more for older children like ages 12 and up, unless an adult is going to assist an 8 year old. Just my opinion.
