Puzzle Pieces Halloween Refrigerator Magnets

September 26, 2022 by Shelly

Halloween is just around the corner and these puzzle pieces refrigerator magnets are super easy-to-make! We made them with a group of kids ages 6 to 13 years of age. All you need are old cardboard puzzle pieces, painting supplies, and a few other things.

Cardboard Puzzle Pieces
Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
All-Purpose, Quick-Drying Craft Glue
Fine Tip Black Sharpie Marker
Magnets

To get the acrylic paint to stick better to the pieces we opted to paint on the unprinted side of each puzzle piece (the back). Base coat each piece with 2 coats of acrylic paint allowing for 20 minutes of drying time between coats.

Ghost: Base coat in white.
Frankenstein: Base coat in lime green.
Jack o’Lantern: Base coat in orange.
Dracula: Base coat in purple.

If you’re working with older children they can hand paint on the facial features or use a Sharpie Marker. When working with younger children, I recommend the Sharpie Marker. Add the facial features and then let dry for an hour or until the paint is no longer tacky. See photo for ideas on facial features.

Flip each puzzle piece over and glue a magnet on the back side. We used small Industrial strength magnets that we purchased from Amazon. You need a strong magnet to hold them up firmly in place on the refrigerator. You don’t want them sliding down every time the door is open and closed. Just saying!

This is another cute idea. I would never have thought to use puzzle pieces to make magnets, and Halloween magnets are so cute.

This is so creative I love it. I have never seen a craft project like this one and I would so love to do it with the kids in the family.

That is so cute. You can use a puzzle that has some lost pieces.
