Family Fun at the Hershey Gardens and Butterfly Atrium

The Hershey Gardens is a beautiful botanical garden that sits right outside of downtown Hershey, Pennsylvania. They’re open year-round and offer free parking. You do have to pay an admission fee to get into the gardens and to visit the Butterfly House.

We like to take the grandchildren every year. In my honest opinion, the best time to visit is late Spring, early Summer when you’ll see gorgeous floral displays and the most colorful flowers in full bloom. Plus, it’s not as hot and humid like it gets mid and late summer. The weather is more pleasant!

You’ll pay your admission and then walk through the atrium and lobby. There’s a small gift shop if you want to pick up sovenirs or a drink. You’ll find public restrooms in that building too. You’ll then pass through the double doors and out into the beautiful gardens.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. You’ll be outside and doing a lot of walking! There are some shaded areas and benches along the way that you can sit down on when you need to take a rest. You can get a little map from them to help guide you along the way.

We always stay on the paved paths which makes walking easier and keeps the gardens in tip-top shape. There’s a children’s garden that is set up for the kids. The grandchildren love going in there and walking through all of the areas in that particular section.

After we’re done outside walking through all of the gardens we head back inside to visit the Butterfly Garden. The butterflies fly all around so you need to be careful where you’re walking. Don’t try to grab them, they will land on you naturally if they’re interested in visiting you. My grandchildren LOVE this part of the adventure and always looking forward to visiting the butterflies!
