Starting with pencil techniques and warm-up exercises, 15-Minute Drawing: Getting Started guides you in exploring the basics of drawing with graphite pencil—from how to hold a pencil and varying pressure to practicing basic strokes and techniques, including hatching, crosshatching, stippling, creating texture, blending, and more. Prompts and open spaces invite you to practice your newfound skills directly inside the book and to record your progress.

My 13 year old daughter is the artistic one in this household. She’s been doing arts and crafts with my mom since the age of 4. She really enjoys drawing, sketching, painting, and beading as her top favorite mediums to work in. What’s really nice about this book is that it’s truly for beginners. You’ll follow along step-by-step with easy to understand diagrams and instructions to complete the design.

Chapters Include: Getting Started, Drawing Techniques, Lettering Techniques, Creating a Beautiful Layout, Leaves & Flowers, City Buildings, Animals & Insects, Everyday Life, and a section all about the artist Erin McManness.

One of the cool things about the book is that there are some blank pages in the book where you can practice what the artist is teaching as you follow along with each of the steps. My daughter is especially excited to learn how to draw the animals and flowers. Those are her favorites!
