How to Make Your Own Coastal Beach Home Decor Accents

How to Make Your Own Coastal Beach Home Decor AccentsI decorate my home in a coastal cottage beach style. I love the neutral colors and the relaxing feel that it gives to my home. With that said, coastal home decor can be expensive and hard to find. A lot of times I make my own accents and do so on a budget!

Last month I was in Dollar General Store and found these 3 adorable coastal beach wooden plaques. Each one had a little wooden easel on the backside. Cost??? Oh yeah, $1.00 each! That’s a bargain! I knew right away what I would be making with them!

Once I got home I dusted them off and removed the sticky label price tag from each one (on the backside). I then used a flat head screw driver to pry-off the wooden easel on the back. I wanted them to lay flat because I would be hanging them on the wall.

Next up…my trusty hot glue gun! I used a generous amount of hot glue to glue all 3 of them together. You want to make sure that none of the hot glue oozes out on the front. Press each one together firmly and hold in place for 1-3 minutes to get a tight bond.

To make them hangable I purchased a little saw tooth hanger which I added to the back on the middle plaque. You just need a little hammer as it comes with 2 tiny nails. Now the entire thing is ONE unit and ready to hang! This entire home accent cost me $4.00 plus hot glue to make! What a bargain!

Coastal Beach Wall Grouping Starfish

You can easily make a starfish wall accent too! I purchased a large starfish and painted it white with acrylic chalk paint using a foam brush. I coated the entire starfish front and back with 2 coats of paint and left it dry. Once it was dry I wrapped the one arm of the starfish with jute style rope. Use a hot glue gun to fasten the jute down. Make a hanging loop and glue that on the back. That’s it…you’re done!

If you don’t like the look of the rope/jute you can simply glue a large thumbtack onto the back of the starfish. Let it dry overnight and then just tack it up onto the wall beside your favorite framed piece of artwork. Easy peasy!

Now that our dining room remodel is almost done I’ve started on the decorating and I’m determined to stay within my budge. Both of these projects are budget-friendly.
