The beautiful Cape May Point State Park is located in Cape May, New Jersey. If you’re unfamiliar with the area…it’s the southern most-tip of the state. Portions of Cape May are along the Atlantic Ocean and other portions are along the Delaware Bay.
Cape May is a year-round coastal town with thousands of residents who live there all year long. During the busy summer tourist season you’ll find it hustling and bustling with all kinds of family-friendly activities. If you don’t like big crowds but enjoy nice weather we recommend visiting during the months of May, early June, late September, and early October.
We like to take the grandchildren over to the beautiful Cape May Point State Park when they’re down at the shore with us. Admission is FREE unless you want to enter the lighthouse can climb up all of the steps to the very top. Otherwise, it’s free to visit along with free parking.
There are several activities you can enjoy.
1. Take your beach chairs, towels, etc. and go sit out on the beach.
2. Take a walk along a nature trail to see area shore birds and wildlife that call the area home.
3. There’s a small educational building that has displays set up that you can visit. It’s air conditioned and includes history on the local area, the wildlife, seashell identification, etc. Again, FREE.
4. There are several picnic pavilions onsite. Bring along a picnic lunch and enjoy it seaside with your family.
5. Visit the Cape May Lighthouse. This activity has an admission fee per person if you plan on going inside the lighthouse and climbining up the hundreds of steps to the top. If you choose to do it…you’ll be treated to gorgeous ocean and bay views of the surrounding area. There’s a small gift booth at the bottom where you can purchase a few souvenirs.
6. Educational Programs. Throughout the year the state park hosts several different educational programs with the majority of them free to attend. You’ll have to contact the park to obtain a schedule of events.
