There’s an interesting trend taking place in the alcohol industry—according to a DoorDash article, in 2022, consumers are “embracing bold, adventurous flavors and compositions, as well as dipping their toes into the no- and low-ABV movement.” I recently tried Hunni Sparkling Soju, which is a lower alcohol by volume (ABV) beverage and is a delicious and refreshing drink made for sipping.

So, what exactly is Soju? Soju is a clear, low-alcohol, distilled spirit that is the most popular liquor in Korea. The Hunni Sparkling Soju journey starts with a better soju, artfully distilled from organic wheat blended with rice grown in Northern California. The addition of rice brings unique richness and flavor to our soju, helping to make each of the cocktails truly distinct.
Hunni Sparkling Soju has a 4.0% ABV and about 100 calories per 12 ounce can, which makes it ideal for those looking for something flavorful and unique that is also light and refreshing. This beverage fits the bill for sure. Hunni Sparkling Soju is available in four bold flavors –Yuzu + Elderflower, Korean Pear, Perilla Leaf + Lime, Peach and Chili Pepper, and Grape and Ginger Transfusion. While they all taste really good, I really loved the Grape + Ginger Transfusion the best. So fizzy and fabulous.
Each flavor is so distinct and different than anything I’ve had before. Here’s a little description of what you can expect from each:
• Yuzu + Elderflower – this sparkling soju cocktail balances the soft citrus flavor of yuzu, reminiscent of grapefruit and mandarin orange, with the floral and fragrant notes of elderflower. So tasty.
• Korean Pear, Perilla Leaf + Lime – this blend brings together crisp and tart Korean pears with perilla leaf (Korea’s mint-like herb), and a squeeze of lime. Zesty and zippy for sure!
• Peach + Chili Pepper – this adventurous cocktail combines fragrant white peach juice and the kick of chili pepper with a touch of yuzu juice for added zing. My husband adds peppers to his food and now he can drink them as well. Perfect pizazz in a can.
• Grape + Ginger Transfusion – this one brings together the rich sweetness from Conchord grape juice and the heat of ginger with a squeeze of lime. This is a truly modern spin on a classic cocktail and is my favorite of the bunch.
Hunni Sparkling Soju is a nice change of pace and doesn’t make me feel bloated or guilty. With the low- calorie count, I can enjoy a can or two and not feel like I’ve consumed a whole day’s worth of calories. These are great for mixing it up at your next party as well, and is a really solid and tasty option for folks who may not enjoy a heavy alcoholic beverage.
These Hunni Soju beverages can be purchased directly from the company’s website and are available for $14.99 for a four-pack. Follow the company on Instagram and Twitter to learn more about their full line of beverages.
