Shrimp is a staple in our household. We enjoy it once or twice a month steamed, deep fried, baked, grilled, etc. It’s versatile and can be the main dish or an ingredient in another recipe. We have a nice Seafood Market that we like to visit and they often have it on sale.
When steaming it we like to use the Old Bay recipe that is printed right on the container of Old Bay Seasoning. It’s quick and you don’t need a lot of ingredients. Plus, you can add more or less of the seasoning to suit your own taste buds. I like it more on the medium side while hubby likes his spicy.
Here is how I like to figure out portions. Each of us generally will eat a dozen shrimp when hungry. If we plan on having some the following day…I double the recipe.
Old Bay Steamed Shrimp Recipe
1/2 cup Old Bay Seasoning
White Vinegar or Beer
Water
2 Dozen of Fresh or Thawed Large Shrimp
Note: We use this same recipe when steaming crabs. We use Lite Beer if we’re using beer instead of the vinegar.
Pour equal amounts of vinegar or beer and water to steamer or large pot with steaming rack, so that the liquid is just below the rack. Bring to a full boil. Place the shrimp on the rack, sprinkling each layer generously with Old Bay Seasoning. Cover pot.
Steam for 20-30 minutes or until shrimp turn pink in color. It should only take 3-5 minutes if that. Remove from water and let cool before serving. We like to place them into a bowl with a lid, refrigerate for 2-3 hours and then enjoy.

I have never tried to steam shrimp with a beer mixture. This is a recipe I shall need to try.
I will have to try using beer in the recipe which is something I have not done before. I would make a double recipe and use it with a salad the next day.
Oh man I love shrimp and have some in the refrigerator right now. I would love to try this recipe sounds nice and easy and one the whole family will enjoy thanks for sharing.
