Grandma’s Homemade Ham Gravy Recipe
Baked ham can be on the dry side at times, especially when it’s reheated and eaten as a leftover. One way that I combat that is by serving homemade ham gravy on top or on the side. This gravy is easy-to-make and you can freeze leftovers for another time. I’ve successfully have kept it in my freezer for up to 3 months with no problems at all.
If you like to make homemade waffles, it’s equally delicious poured over the top. If you like it sweeter, feel free to add a tablespoon or two of granulated sugar or a tablespoon of brown sugar. I like it best without the added sugar.
Gramdma’s Homemade Ham Gravy Recipe
1 1/2 cups cooked ham drippings
1 1/2 tablespoons water
1 1/4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Pour ham drippings and water into a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the all-purpose flour and corn starch. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. The gravy will thicken up pretty quickly. When it’s hot and of proper consistency remove from heat. Place in gravy boat or serving bowl. Stir again right before serving.
Note: If gravy is too thick add additional water, 1 teaspoon at a time. If it’s too runny add all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon at a time until you get the right consistency.
