Gobbling Up the Benefits of Ground Turkey

Ground Turkey is Less Expensive

Most people have felt the financial pinch of more expensive groceries on their food budgets. The nice thing about ground turkey is that it is a relatively inexpensive protein option. In a world where food prices have sharply risen, that’s a huge relief.

Ground Turkey Stores and Freezes Well

Ground turkey is easy to store in the refrigerator and freezer. As it’s usually available by the pound, ground turkey packages tend to be small enough to stuff into tight corners. Pay attention to how ground turkey is stored. Prepackaged portions will generally be available in four different types of packaging:

* Traditional – turkey meat packaged in a container with a foam bottom and wrapped in plastic. It’s the most common packaging technique for fresh meats, including ground turkey.
* Modified atmosphere – very similar to traditional packaging. This technique seals the meat with purified air, helping the turkey stay fresher for a longer amount of time.
* Vacuum-sealed – Vacuum-sealed packaging removes the air from the meat, creating an airless seal to keep the turkey as fresh as possible. It is actually the best type of packaging for freezing turkey because the tight seal deters ice crystals from forming in the meat.
* Chub – this packaging is a thin seal of plastic surrounding the meat, sealed at each end with metal rings. This is also a good option if the turkey is going to be frozen for future consumption.

I agree with all of these benefits, but I am still more used to using a whole turkey or the parts. I shal try to use ground turkey more in meatballs and meatloaf.

I know all of this but in my mind turkey is not ground up. I have bought it before but could not make myself cook it and ended up throwing it away. Maybe if I tasted it without know what it was ???
